Calm In The Cotswolds: Laura Butler-Madden's House Renewal
Stepping into Grove Farm, an 18th-century Georgian farmhouse with gracious windows and mature gardens, allows us to revisit an older era. Laura Butler-Madden, designer and founder of Grove England, has curated a calm, contemporary elegance that breathes new life into her Cotswolds home.

The renovation honours the home's architectural heritage while enhancing its functionality and connection to the outdoors; a purposeful design to allow a merge with the surrounding landscape through large windows and French doors. Throughout the home, Laura has woven together gentle layers of colour and texture to evoke a quietly timeless interior, one that invites ease, depth, and a feeling of enduring calm.
With this project, the decoration was approached with sensitivity to the building's period features, such as original beams and cornicing, balancing the distinct contrast between the late Georgian farmhouse structure and its Victorian enhancements, including high ceilings and large sash windows.

Paint played a critical role in unifying its design. Laura chose a calming, earthy palette, favouring soft taupe, muted greens, and natural creams. Central to its transformation is Holland Park™ No.5. This is a soft, creamy off-white that captures the Cotswolds light with an effortless grace. Its subtle warmth and style compliments the garden views, setting a quietly uplifting mood throughout the home. Being a classic white, the shade pairs effortlessly with the home's heritage features, allowing for an enhanced look and feel.
Alongside this, in the main bedroom suite and guest areas, Laura used Onslow™ No.48. An understated neutral, Onslow™ No.48, feels like a whisper of sophistication in any space. Part off-white, part soft ochre, it carries a subtle golden-red undertone that shifts with the light, giving the interiors a rich feel.

Yet, the stylised use of colour across the home was carefully echoed in the joinery and wallpaper, creating a visual flow and cohesion that can be seen as you make your journey throughout the house.
This project also marks the debut of Grove England, Laura's fragrance brand, bringing together British craftmanship, natural ingredients, and seasonal inspiration in a refined line of fine fragrance collections.

Laura says, "I have worked with Mylands before and knew I wanted to again for Grove Farm. Their paints not only offer beautiful depth and subtle tonality, but they also reflect our shared belief in craft, heritage, and creating something with longevity. The quality is fantastic - our decorators always love using them - and it was important to me that they have strong environmental values too"
Dominic Myland, CEO, Mylands says, “We’re thrilled to have partnered with Laura on Grove Farm. Her design ethos mirrors our passion for quality and timelessness, and the result is a truly inspiring space.”
